Position: Senior Manager, Agricultural Lands

About the job

As a Senior Manager, you will support the design and implementation of agricultural land-based carbon projects that engage small and large producers to adopt agricultural practices that improve soil health, increase carbon storage, and build resilience to climate change across croplands, agroforestry lands, and grazing lands.

The location for this position is remote. It comes with a competitive starting salary of $95,000-$120,000 (based on location/experience), profit sharing incentives, health insurance benefits, 401(k) match, generous time off, and flexibility to support work-life balance.

What you’ll do

1. Expert Project Input & Quality Assurance (30-40%)

● Provide senior-level oversight on key client projects, ensuring technical quality and strategic alignment.

● Provide technical inputs on key elements of projects, serving as a focal point for complex project challenges and offering hands-on problem-solving guidance for elements that are delegated to other staff.

● Review and approve final deliverables, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable insights.

2. Innovation and Methodology Development (20-30%)

● Lead the design, development, and refinement of innovative methodologies within the agricultural lands domain.

● Conduct and oversee research in emerging areas, contributing to thought leadership and organizational advancement.

● Identify opportunities to introduce new tools, frameworks, or approaches that improve accuracy or efficiency of workflow for internal or client staff.

3. Leadership & Development (15-20%)

● Supervise and mentor staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and high performance.

● Facilitate technical development plans, knowledge exchange, and growth opportunities for staff members.

● Support effective resourcing and workload balance across staff members.

4. Business Development Support (15-20%)

● Partner with the Managing Partner to develop new business opportunities within the agricultural lands domain.

● Attend client meetings to represent subject matter expertise.

● Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, and client presentations.

What you bring

● Advanced degree in soil science, agricultural science, or related field

● At least 7 years of working experience in a relevant field (e.g. scientific research, natural climate solutions, agronomy, etc.)

● Experience with emerging technologies for soil carbon monitoring (e.g. digital soil mapping, spectroscopy)

● Hands-on project experience with carbon offset standards and methodologies, in particular the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the VCS Methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management (VM0042) and VCS Methodology for Adoption of Sustainable Grasslands (VM0032)

● Acumen in project planning and management

● Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills

● Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and mentor junior professionals.

● Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 10-30% of the time)

● Fluency in English

Preferred Skills and Expertise

● PhD in soil science, agricultural science, carbon modeling or related field

● Strong field and analytical skills, including proficiency in soil sampling design and statistical analysis

● Familiarity with Scope 3 accounting

● Experience living or working abroad, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa

● Proficiency in a second language; Swahili is particularly desirable, though Spanish, Hindi, and other languages are welcome skills
